We learn how to do things and we can remember (or forget) how to do them. Thus we have some son of memory for procedural knowledge. Applied psychologists have long been interested in how we learn such perceptual-motor skills as aiming a rifle or hitting a golf ball (see Keels Summers, 1976, for a review of such work). How is such procedural knowledge represented in memory? A theory of procedural knowledge has recently been proposed (Anderson, 1980, 1983).
